“Road to the Stamping Ground.” Home Vision. $39.95. Seeking what he calls “new food” for the art of dance, choreographer Jiri Kylian attended a gathering of aboriginal tribes off the Australian coast in 1980. Written and directed by David Muir, this hourlong documentary includes glimpses of the dances at that gathering, archival footage of ballet and tribal dance, interviews with Kylian and a performance by Netherlands Dance Theater of his “Stamping Ground,” an uneven but innovative 20-minute work influenced by aboriginal movement. A thoughtful, stimulating exploration of relationships between cultures. Information: (800) 262-8600.
