Former University of Arizona basketball Coach Ben Lindsey will not be permitted to collect additional money for emotional distress caused by being fired in 1983.
Pima County Superior Court Judge Lawrence Fleischman rejected arguments by Lindsey’s lawyer that claimed the university orchestrated Lindsey’s firing in a manner “calculated to give undue emotional distress.”
Lindsey had sought additional money on top of the $695,000 awarded in October when a jury decided that the school improperly fired him after one year because he had been promised four years to develop a team. In the 1982-83 season, the Wildcats had a 4-24 record--the worst in school history.
