MEXICO CITY — Police arrested a mother and daughter who headed a ring that hijacked merchandise trucks, the newspaper El Universal reported Monday.
Martha Alcantara de Vergara, 43, and her daughter Lourdes, 24, were arrested Saturday when police, acting on a tip, surprised gang members unloading a hijacked truck full of soft drinks at a warehouse, the newspaper said.
When asked by police why she turned to robbery, the mother said she couldn’t find a job because of Mexico’s economic crisis, it added.
