USAir cut the amount of Piedmont stock it will buy.
USAir Group said it is reducing the number of shares it will acquire in Piedmont Aviation because of a Transportation Department decision limiting its Piedmont holdings. USAir said it will continue to pay $69 per share but will purchase a maximum 9,309,394 shares of Piedmont. The department said Friday that USAir could continue to acquire Piedmont stock pending final departmental approval of the merger, but with a ceiling of 51%.
