British Airways to Check Jets for Cracks

LONDON —  British Airways will carry out special inspections on its 19 Lockheed Tri-Star jets after one aircraft was grounded when engineers found a crack in metal rings attaching the floor support to the fuselage, the company said Sunday.

A company statement said “there was no danger to the aircraft.”

It said the damaged part was being replaced with a new one sent from the United States.

“We will not be withdrawing any aircraft from service,” British Airways said. “Howvever, particular attention will be paid to this area when the aircraft comes in for their regular servicing and routine maintenance checks.”
