Ten minutes after a 4-year-old Sylmar girl was reported missing, a Sun Valley man was arrested Wednesday at a Sunland park on suspicion of kidnaping the girl.
Two Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies patrolling Orcas Park spotted Genaro Flores Valdez, 37, with the girl shortly before 7 p.m. in the back of a car, Los Angeles Police Lt. George Rock said.
The girl had been abducted from the 13000 block of San Fernando Road, near her home, which is seven miles away, Rock said.
Police found evidence indicating that Valdez intended to molest the girl, Rock said. “There’s a good possibility that he had been there just seconds before the deputies spotted him,” he said.
The girl was being examined at Serra Memorial Health Center.
Valdez was being held in lieu of $6,000 bail.
