Aerojet Building to Bring High-Tech to New High
Talk about high-tech: A $9.7-million office/engineering building under construction for Aerojet ElectroSystems in Azusa will have a “lightrium,” “white sound,” and an “ice harvester machine.”
The “lightrium” is a long skylight section in the center of the three-story, 110,000-square-foot structure that incorporates light sensors to turn ceiling lights on or off as required.
“White sound” uses multiple frequencies to mask the sounds of machines and conversation in open-plan office buildings. The “ice harvester” makes ice at night--when temperatures and power usage and costs are low--to cool the structure during the day.
A December completion is scheduled for the building, being built on a 48-acre complex in the western part of Azusa along the Foothill (210) Freeway.
The architect is Kober, Cedergreen & Rippon, formerly called Charles Kober Associates, Los Angeles. The contractor is PCL Construction Services Inc., Irvine. Aerojet ElectroSystems is a unit of Sacramento-based Aerojet-General, California’s ninth largest defense contractor.
