Ground breaking is scheduled April 1 on the $22-million, 87,000-square-foot Hermosa Beach Pavilion, a two-level specialty entertainment complex with a six-screen movie theater, three restaurants and specialty shops.

The hillside project at 16th Street and Pacific Coast Highway in Hermosa Beach is a development of Developers Equity-Hermosa, and expected to be completed by year’s end.

It is designed in a contemporary Mediterranean style by Design Collaborative Inc., Encino, in association with Gordon, Friedman, Baldwinson Associates and features ocean-view dining terraces and below-grade parking.

“We’ve added a contemporary interpretation that features a California beachside look,” according to Daniel Chudnovsky of Design Collaborative, which also has offices in the New York metropolitan area. “The center will be of Miami-pink stucco, accented with porcelain tile along the building base and the theater and upper arcade.”

The building will step down 16th Street, with parking for 540 cars in the three lower levels, according to Joseph Langlois of Developers Equities. The leasing agent is Michael Epsteen and Associates, Santa Monica.
