$2 Million Stolen From Delivery Van on London Street
LONDON — Two masked robbers ambushed a private delivery van in downtown London, held up four guards at gunpoint and escaped with $2 million, Scotland Yard said Saturday. No one was injured.
The robbery of the Group Four van happened on Friday afternoon in busy traffic, a spokesman said. Group Four is a private delivery service similar to the Brinks company in the United States.
The robbers, who were driving a car, halted the van on a main street in the Islington district of north London. One pulled a handgun, and ordered the van moved into a nearby alley, and it was followed by his accomplice in the car.
The guards were forced to hand over 60 bags of notes and cash worth a total of $2 million, the spokesman said. “It was all over in less than half an hour,” he said.
