Hillside Growth Can’t Be All Bad
In reply to the letter from Gilbert McEwen “Development on Whittier Hillsides,” (Southeast/Long Beach sections, March 8), I agree in part regarding cutting up our hillsides, since I played in the hills as a boy.
However, this is 1987, and growth isn’t all bad. It needs control, yes.
My father started our furniture business in Uptown Whittier in 1932 and I have worked in this business since I was 10.
There have been many changes--we now need more and better stores so we can be competitive in value, style and selection, and a quality of salesmanship superior to the big shopping centers, because we are small.
There lies the key to our success--more personalized service, sincere concern for our customers’ needs, more effort.
