Reminder Day
Thanks to Daniel Landau (Letters, March 3) for remembering the coincidence of Aug. 8 connecting Presidents Richard M. Nixon and Ronald Reagan.
Let us make Aug. 8 National Reminder Day--in the tradition of Groundhog Day, April Fools’ Day and Guy Fawkes Day in Britain to remind those who would rule over us of Grover Cleveland’s admonition: “A public office is a public trust,” said in a past era of widespread political corruption and malfeasance.
The day could be observed with revelries, both public and personal. It would give us an August occasion and be a break from the routine of the usual; and it might serve “a higher purpose.”
