Troy, Mich.-based K Mart Corp., the nation’s second-largest retailer, reported its profit for the year and and the fourth quarter ended Jan. 28, 1987, rose to record levels. The increase was the result of merchandising, refurbishing and expense control programs, as well as the point of sale (computer cash register) system, implemented during the last several years, a spokesman said.
