Sir Richard Attenborough was named chairman of Britain’s independent and innovative Channel Four television channel Thursday. The film director will succeed Edmund Dell, who retires in June, the Independent Broadcasting Authority said. Attenborough, whose films include “Gandhi” and “A Chorus Line,” is also chairman of the British Film Institute and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
