Friends finally raised money for a $1-million bond to free California Highway Patrol Officer Craig Alan Peyer, 36, from San Diego County Jail, where he was awaiting trial in the Dec. 27 slaying of university student Cara Evelyn Knott.
Peyer’s lawyer said the accused man’s friends raised nearly $100,000 to obtain the bond posted by bail bondsman Jim Hobbs.
A jail spokeswoman said Peyer, jailed since his Jan. 15 arrest, was freed Wednesday night. The attorney said Peyer will remain in San Diego County.
