Missed ‘Signals’ in Iran Affair, Bush Says

DAVENPORT, Iowa —  Vice President George Bush said Thursday that “I wish I’d seen the signals” as President Reagan’s Iran policy went awry, but he told Republicans the Administration will be judged on arms control and other issues rather than “the agony of the Iran affair.”

Bush, a former CIA director, said, “I’m catching the dickens” for failing to stop the Iran initiative. “Things are very clear, ex post facto, but I didn’t see quite so clearly before.”

“I’m a part of the team and I don’t like it when things go wrong,” Bush said a day after Reagan made a nationally broadcast address accepting responsibility in the affair.
