Bangladesh Bus Drivers Strike to Protest Killing

DHAKA, Bangladesh — A wildcat strike paralyzed transportation in eastern Bangladesh on Wednesday when nearly 10,000 bus drivers walked out in protest against the killing of a co-worker by paramilitary security guards, police said.
They said guards at an anti-smuggling post fired on a bus Tuesday night on a highway near Meghna Ghat, 26 miles east of Dhaka, when the driver ignored a call to stop the vehicle for checking. Driver Siddiqur Rahman was killed instantly. Three passengers were injured and later admitted to a hospital, police said.
