Who’s Paying Whom?
This is in connection with the Mankoff cartoon in Business section of Feb. 18.
Please tell Mankoff that when one pays a mortgage, he is the mortgagor, not the mortgagee. A co-payer is a co-mortgagor. I think this is what he meant to say, as a co-mortgagee would be one of two persons receiving the payments made by a mortgagor. In my business, as an escrow officer for 29 years, I have to correct most people every day.
