BOYS BASKETBALL PLAYOFF ROUNDUP
Harvard 62, Beaumont 53--Forward Steve Green scored 13 of his team-high 29 points in the second quarter to help Harvard win the 1-A quarterfinal game at Beaumont. Harvard led, 31-23, at halftime and held Beaumont to eights points in the third quarter.
Whittier Christian 60, Chaminade 42--Whittier Christian broke a 36-36 fourth-quarter tie and went on to beat Chaminade in a quarterfinal round game of the Southern Section 1-A playoffs. Whittier Christian, led by Chris Syke, outscored Chaminade, 24-6, in the fourth quarter.
Chaminade (18-8) made only 2 of 13 shots from the field in the fourth quarter as 6-8 center Kevin Black made only two free throws in that period. Scott Stuber scored a game-high 19 points and Black had 14 points.
Crossroads 75, Montclair Prep 49--Guard Chris Brown of Crossroads (21-5) scored a game-high 20 points and teammate David Wolfe had 15 in the Southern Section 1-A quarterfinal game at Montclair Prep. The loss ended a 13-game winning streak for the Mounties (16-7).
Oakwood 65, Big Pine 56--Mitchell Butler scored 29 points and Lloyd Levine added 17 as Oakwood ended Big Pine’s 19-game winning streak in a Small Schools quarterfinal. David Fond added 10 points and Eric Leddel had 12 assists for Oakwood (20-5), which will meet Whitney in the semifinals Tuesday.
