Colombia Captures Drug Baron
BOGOTA, Colombia — Carlos Lehder Rivas, the alleged Colombian drug baron whose extradition is sought by the United States, was captured today in the northeastern district of Antioquia, police officials said.
Jose Arturo Pineda, subdirector of the national police, said Lehder was seized this morning during a police raid on a farmhouse. Pineda said 14 other men, identified as Lehder’s bodyguards, were also arrested in the raid following an exchange of fire with police during which one of the suspects was wounded. Arrangements are already being made for the extradition of Lehder to the United States, Pineda said.
