Iran Admits Holding Reporter

Iran acknowledged for the first time today that it is holding Wall Street Journal correspondent Gerald Seib, calling him “a spy for the Zionist regime.” An independent news service said the journalist was suspected of collecting secret military information for Israel.
The White House said Iranian authorities have refused to meet with officials of the Swiss Embassy, which represents the United States in Iran, to discuss the Seib case. Seib, who was arrested Saturday, was among more than 50 U.S. and other foreign journalists invited to Iran by the government to visit the battlefront of Iran’s war with Iraq.
