Hollywood Hailed

It was two years, not 15, after “Gone With the Wind” that the word “damn” was used in a Hollywood film. In “How Green Was My Valley,” Sara Allgood literally “damns” the striking miners who have been talking against her husband. A further taboo breaker in that 1941 film was her use of the phrase “to hell with.” “The Moon Is Blue” was released in the spring of 1953, not 1954.
