Lynwood : 2 Arraigned in Con Scheme
Two women who may have collected thousands of dollars in a con game by telling their victims they needed bail money for a relative too embarrassed to ask neighbors for help have been arrested by Lynwood sheriff’s deputies.
Latona Dillard, 22, of Compton and Danita Greene-Nelson, 27, of Lynwood were arraigned in Compton Municipal Court on eight counts, including residential burglary and petty theft. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled Jan. 30 in the Compton court.
There may have been more than 100 victims in the last two years who were conned out of money, said Joseph Maxey, Lynwood station sheriff’s detective. Authorities are attempting to find other victims.
The two suspects allegedly would tell residents that a relative who lived next door had been jailed for a traffic offense but was too embarrassed to ask for bail money. The suspects reportedly asked for $20 to $40 from each victim.
