Pat Dye, football coach at Auburn, will recommend that the university adopt a new attendance policy that would require all student-athletes to have “normal class attendance” to be eligible for competition, a spokesman said.
The recommendation was made as the university’s faculty senate is preparing to vote Feb. 18 on whether to censure Dye--who is also Auburn’s athletic director--for allowing tailback Brent Fullwood to play in the Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Day although Fullwood had missed most of his fall classes.
The censure resolution states that Dye’s decision to let Fullwood play was “irresponsible and detrimental to the maintenance of the academic integrity of college athletics.”
