Travel Agent Arraigned in Fraud

A Glendale travel agency owner accused of embezzling $312,000 from an airline ticket agency was arraigned Tuesday on grand theft charges, a deputy district attorney said.
Anoop Bhatia, 30, who operated Argosy Exodus Travel, was released on his own recognizance, pending a Feb. 9 preliminary hearing, Deputy Dist. Atty. Timothy Browne said.
Browne said police discovered that Bhatia was returning ticket sale forms to a ticket handling company, requesting refunds for the tickets even though no customer had ever paid for them.
Bhatia bought the business at 601 N. Glendale Ave. in May, 1986, and the alleged embezzling began almost immediately, Browne said.
