Local News in Brief : Van Nuys Pedestrian Killed by Automobile
A 62-year-old man who was walking across a Van Nuys street was struck and killed Monday by a car attempting a turn, police said.
Although police are still investigating the incident, they consider it an accident and do not expect to seek charges against the driver of the car, Officer John Baby said.
The name of the victim, a Van Nuys resident, was being withheld pending notification of relatives, Baby said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, at Van Nuys Boulevard and Sylvan Street, he said.
The car’s driver, who police identified only as a 35-year-old Van Nuys man, was eastbound on Sylvan Street at 6:40 a.m. when he turned south on Van Nuys Boulevard, Baby said.
The victim was walking east across Van Nuys Boulevard when he was struck near the curb and dragged about 18 feet, Baby said.
