CORONA — A 2-year-old girl who was left unattended in a converted bus died Saturday evening when a fire erupted, engulfing the makeshift home, authorities said Sunday.
Olivia Contreras was declared dead at the scene of the 5 p.m. blaze, a coroner’s spokesman said.
The girl’s 3-year-old brother, Roman Campana, also was inside the bus and suffered smoke inhalation. He was listed in fair but guarded condition Sunday at Loma Linda University Medical Center, police said.
The children’s mother, Susan Campana, 20, was arrested by Corona police officers on suspicion of felony child endangerment and booked into the Riverside County Jail, police said, adding that it was not known where the mother was at the time the fire started, nor where officers found her.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
