Hot Fudge Sundae on the Noggin Helps Foil Purse Snatcher

ALBANY, N.Y. —  A would-be purse snatcher was dripping ice cream as he fled from a 56-year-old woman who “let him have it” with a hot fudge sundae, police said.

Police spokesman Sgt. Robert Wolfgang said a young man accosted the woman, Elizabeth Sullivan, last week on a downtown street.

“She had her purse over her shoulder and the guy tried to grab it,” Wolfgang said. But rather than give in, the woman “struck him repeatedly with a hot fudge sundae she was carrying. . . . I know it sounds strange, but that’s what happened.”
