Unheralded Armin Bittner scored his first World Cup ski victory at Hinterstoder, Austria, giving West Germany its first men’s slalom victory on the circuit in seven years.
The 22-year-old Bittner was timed in 1 minute 50.14 seconds for his two runs, with veteran Bojan Krizaj of Yugoslavia second in 1:50.94. Italy’s Oswald Toetsch finished third in 1:51.10.
