MOLINE, Ill. — A great-great-granddaughter of farm implement pioneer John Deere has donated $1 million to help retrain Deere & Co. workers laid off or terminated because of cutbacks in farm equipment production.
The donation from Mary Jane Brinton of San Francisco was given last week to the Deere Foundation, which will invest the money and use the proceeds to fund employment programs.
