CHICAGO — Keith Carter scored a career-high 28 points as Loyola of Chicago raced to a 115-93 nonconference basketball victory over Loyola Marymount Friday night.
It was the second-highest number of points ever scored against the California team, exceeded only by Oral Roberts in a 121-100 win over the Lions during the 1972-73 season.
Carter paced a first-half spurt that pulled the Chicago school from a 24-23 deficit eight minutes into the game to a 64-38 lead just before halftime.
Early in the second half, Carter hit three straight baskets, including a three-pointer, as his team outscored the Lions, 16-2, during a four-minute span to build a 92-62 lead.
Carter got help from Bernard Jackson, with 24 points, and Gerald Hayward and Andre Moore, with 16 each, as the Ramblers evened their record at 3-3.
Mark Armstrong paced Loyola Marymount with 18 points. Mike Yoest had 16, while Darryl Carter and Enoch Simmons had 15 each, and Victor Lazzaretti added 14. The loss dropped the Lions’ record to 5-3.
