Some Parking Violations to Be Ignored on Holidays
Parking officers in Los Angeles will no longer write up violations of most posted signs on Christmas and other holidays, it was announced Friday.
No parking will be allowed at red curbs, in bus zones or where stopping and parking are banned around the clock. But most other minor violations will be ignored under a new policy of the Department of Transportation.
For instance, parking beyond time limits or in neighborhoods where permits are required will not be a violation on holidays. The same is true for streets in congested areas where parking is banned during rush hours.
The policy does not have the force of law, but its provisions are the same as those of a proposed ordinance the City Council is expected to pass, possibly in January. The ordinance received preliminary approval Friday in the council’s Transportation and Traffic Committee.
The interim holiday parking policy was announced Friday by the committee’s chairman, Michael Woo, who said he had asked the Department of Transportation to implement it. Woo said holiday parking enforcement has not been a major problem in the past, but he said it has been “inconsistent.”
