Mamo Clark; She Played Gable’s Wife in ‘Mutiny’

Mamo Clark, the exotic Hawaiian-born actress who played a series of Polynesian beauties in adventure films of the 1930s, died Thursday of cancer.
The actress, who was 21 when she played Clark Gable’s native wife in the 1935 version of “Mutiny on the Bounty,” was 72 when she died.
Born on the island of Maui, she was studying at USC when director Frank Lloyd tested her for the part of Maimiti in “Mutiny.” She later appeared in “Hawaii Calls” with juvenile star Bobby Breen; “Seven Sinners” with Marlene Dietrich and John Wayne, and “Hurricane,” which made both Dorothy Lamour and the sarong famous.
She retired from films after marrying and returned to school, earning a degree in cinematography from UCLA in 1965.
