Tamara McKinney of Olympic Valley, Calif., held off two Austrian rivals in Courmayeur, Italy, and won her first World Cup ski race in almost two years.
McKinney, 24, the 1983 Cup titleholder, added the slalom victory to a second-place finish Wednesday.
The American, skiing better than ever after a change of equipment and coaches, last won in Waterville Valley, N.H., in the spring of 1985. Fastest in the first run, she skied to an aggregate time of 1 minute 23.02 seconds, more than half a second quicker than runner-up Roswitha Steiner of Austria. Steiner, the defending Cup slalom champion, finished in 1:23.60, and teammate Monika Maierhofer was third in 1:23.66.
