Titanic Scientist to Head Sea Exploration Center

WOODS HOLE, Mass. — Robert D. Ballard, the scientist who led the expedition that discovered the wreck of the Titanic, has been named to direct a new deep-sea exploration center at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, officials said Thursday.
The new Center for Marine Exploration will provide scientists with more advanced and cost-effective techniques for deep-ocean exploration and focus on sea floor experiments, Woods Hole Director John Steele said.
