Former Mayor Frank L. Rizzo of Philadelphia switched his party registration from Democrat to Republican, saying he was “anxious to take on Wilson Goode head to head” in next year’s mayoral election. Rizzo, surrounded by supporters at the City Hall Annex, held up his new GOP registration card and declared: “I’m going to win!” Goode spoiled Rizzo’s political comeback in 1983 when he easily defeated him in the Democratic primary.
