Santa Ana : Evacuation Ordered After Gas Line Broken
- Share via
Several hundred people were evacuated Friday night near a crowded Santa Ana intersection after a two-inch gas line was accidentally severed at an apartment construction site.
Santa Ana Police Sgt. Dan Carr said the pipeline at 1408 N. Broadway was broken at about 4 p.m. by a trenching machine.
Residents and office workers were evacuated from a two-block area because of the potential fire hazard, Carr said. By 5:45 p.m., Southern California Gas Co. workers were able to seal the leak, enabling people to return to their homes and offices.
