More than 100,000 students marched in the streets of France to protest a proposed law that would tighten entrance requirements to universities and colleges. In Paris, fighting broke out between march organizers and a small group of extreme right-wing students, who threw small Molotov cocktails, bottles and sticks. Police said several people were hurt and a dozen cars damaged in the brief melee. The nationwide demonstrations, which occurred in many of France’s larger cities, were to coincide with the start of parliamentary debate on the reform bill, but discussion was postponed until today.
