Recently a relative was sentenced to 6 months in jail for drunk driving (DWI) and although this upset me, it was tempered by the fact that I’m also upset by DWI. Even though I miss her, I felt 6 months was appropriate.
Then I read about the “gypsy” cabbie’s 15-month sentence and I thought it was odd that a gypsy cabbie received a longer term than a DWI. The next day I read of an actor plea-bargaining a charge of car bombing to avoid jail (and possible further charge reduction to a misdemeanor).
Obviously our courts feel that DWI is far more serious than bombings, but not nearly so as gypsy cabbing!
