Fireworks Ban Voted: The City Council voted tentatively this week to ban the sale of “safe and sane” fireworks, a city spokeswoman said. The council’s action came after a survey of city residents showed that more than 60% oppose fireworks sales, said the spokeswoman, who declined to be identified. Officials of the Knights of Columbus protested the proposed ordinance because the organization relies on firework sales to raise funds. The ordinance still requires a second reading by the council, which has been scheduled for Dec. 11.
