Southern Section Tennis : Johnson, Ammann Lead Edison to Win

Taunya Johnson and Lisa Ammann swept their singles matches Saturday to help Edison High School to a 14-4 victory over Santa Ana in a second-round Southern Section 4-A girls’ tennis match at Santa Ana.
The Chargers (20-1), Sunset League champions, are seeded third in the playoffs. Edison’s No. 1 doubles team of Tracy Goedecke and Laura Oleson also swept their matches.
In other second-round 4-A action:
Corona del Mar 13, Dana Hills 5--Tory Smith and Liz Bastiaance swept their matches at No. 1 doubles to help the second-seeded Sea Kings (18-3) at Dana Hills. Miraleste 12, Newport Harbor 6--Vanessa Bunnell and Leslie Ryan swept their three matches for Newport Harbor (15-6) in the loss at Miraleste.
In second-round 3-A action:
Laguna Hills 10, Hemet 8--The No. 1 doubles team of Katrina Heppler and Brook Fleming swept their matches for the Hawks (19-0) at Hemet. Laguna Hills won eight of nine singles matches.
Alhambra 10, Laguna Beach 8--The Moors (21-1), seeded sixth, won eight of nine doubles matches to beat the Artists at Laguna Beach. Julie Brown swept her singles matches for Laguna Beach (14-9), the Pacific Coast League’s second-place team. Woodbridge 10, Diamond Bar 8--Julie Willett swept all three of her matches at No. 1 singles to help the Warriors at home. In second-round 2-A action:
Valencia 13, South Hills 5--Diane Ewing and Tram-Anh Le swept their singles matches to help the Tigers at South Hills. Valencia (20-2), seeded fourth in the playoffs, won eight of nine singles matches.
