Morris Bowls Over Gianulias at Anaheim to End a Six-Year Winless Streak on Tour
Betty Morris beat top-seeded Nikki Gianulias, 258-222, Saturday at BRC WonderBowl in Anaheim to win the $30,000 Brunswick-L.A. Open and end a six-year winless streak on the Ladies Pro Bowlers tour.
Morris, of Stockton, had qualified third for the finals of the tournament, the fifth event of the six-week $250,000 LPBT fall tour.
She defeated Robin Romeo of Van Nuys, 244-222, and Jeanne Maiden of Solon, Ohio, 234-172, to reach the championship match against Gianulias, of Vallejo.
Morris, 38, earned $5,000 and her 14th career title.
“It has been so long since I won, you begin to wonder if you’ll ever win again,” Morris said, “I’m glad I got to bowl against Nikki for the title. I have more respect for her than anyone on tour. She is the bowler who most deserves to win a title. I’m not sorry I beat her, but she’ll win soon.”
