Southwest Roundup : Stafford and Metcalf Lead Longhorns to a 30-10 Win

Sophomore tailback Eric Metcalf scored three touchdowns at Austin, Tex., Saturday to lead Texas to a 30-10 victory over Houston.
Metcalf, son of former NFL great Terry Metcalf, scored on pass plays of 74 and 53 yards from quarterback Bret Stafford and ran 7 yards for another touchdown.
The Longhorns (4-4 overall, 3-2 in the SWC) had 379 yards passing against the Cougars (1-8, 0-6), who lost their seventh straight game.
Stafford, a junior, completed 16 of 27 passes for 314 yards, giving him 1,760 yards this season, surpassing Todd Dodge’s school record of 1,599 yards in 1984.
He also broke Bobby Layne’s school career completion record of 210 and set a season total offense record of 1,972 yards, breaking Earl Campbell’s record of 1,744 in 1977.
Metcalf wound up with 5 catches for 181 yards and had 29 yards rushing.
Texas’ Jeff Ward kicked three field goals to tie the SWC record of 56, set by Tony Franklin of Texas A&M; in 1975-78.
Texas Tech 36, TCU 14--At Fort Worth, Billy Joe Tolliver threw two touchdown passes to split end Wayne Walker for the Raiders (6-3 and 4-2).
TCU is 3-6 and 1-5.
