Development and Elections in Newport Beach

Now the mayor of Newport Beach is openly lobbying for the Irvine Co. In particular he is urging the public to support the Newport Center expansion.
At the news conference on Oct. 27, featuring the mayor and Tom Nielsen, Irvine Co. vice chairman, the threat was again made that Pelican Hill Road could be delayed for up to 10 years unless the Gridlock special election on Nov. 25 supported the added expansion of Newport Center.
It is as if the Irvine Co. won’t do any down-coast developing unless they get the OK to overdevelop in Newport Beach first.
But above all it is bad taste or worse for the mayor of Newport Beach to openly flack for the Irvine Co.
As your article of Oct. 28 said, he is not up for reelection this November.
