Southern Section Volleyball : Irvine Advances With Win Over Edison
Second-seeded Irvine defeated Edison, 15-7, 16-14, 15-8, Wednesday in a first-round Southern Section 4-A volleyball match at Irvine. Irvine (14-1) will play Lakewood Friday in the second round. Lakewood beat Garden Grove, 15-2, 15-6, 15-4.
In other first-round 4-A play:
Fifth-ranked Marina (14-1) beat Bolsa Grande, 15-9, 15-9, 15-5, at Marina.
Huntington Beach ranked No. 8 in 4-A, beat South Torrance, 15-10, 15-7, 15-3, at Huntington Beach.
The Oilers (13-2) meets Capistrano Valley, which beat Cypress, 15-1, 15-2, 15-7.
Ninth-ranked Gahr beat Kennedy, 15-8, 15-0, 15-4.
La Quinta (11-4) defeated Cerritos, 15-7, 14-16, 8-15, 15-13, 15-7, at La Quinta. Senior Marianne Korzen had 21 kills.
Fourth-ranked Long Beach Wilson beat El Toro, 15-9, 13-15, 17-15.
