CHEYENNE — Democrat Mike Sullivan defeated Republican Pete Simpson in the race to succeed Wyoming’s two-term Democratic Gov. Ed Herschler.
Simpson, University of Wyoming administrator and a former legislator, is the brother of Sen. Alan Simpson. Sullivan, a Casper lawyer, was a darkhorse when he won the Democratic primary.
With 54% of the vote counted, Sullivan had 45,027 votes, or 55%, to Simpson’s 37,472, or 45%.
