OKLAHOMA CITY — Republican Sen. Don Nickles won election to a second term, turning back longtime Democratic Rep. James R. Jones, the former House Budget Committee chairman.
Republican Henry Bellmon, elected Oklahoma’s first GOP governor in 1962, won his old job back over Democratic businesman David Walters.
Nickles, received two campaign visits by President Reagan. Jones, a seven-term congressman, was a major player in congressional budget battles in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
