OMAHA — In a hotly contested race for governor featuring two women nominees, former Lincoln Mayor Helen Boosalis, a Democrat, narrowly lost to Kay Orr, a longtime Republican enthusiast of President Reagan, who has been serving as the state treasurer.
Orr received 51% of the vote to Boosalis’ 49%. It was the nation’s first woman-vs.-woman battle for governor.
