Consolidated Rail of Philadelphia posted lower third-quarter and nine-month income on lower revenue for 1986, compared to the same periods last year. Conrail’s traffic in the third quarter, as measured by carloadings of freight handled, was up 3.3%. Key segments of traffic showing increases were trailer/container-on-flatcar, 21.6%, and all traffic other than coal, 0.5%. However, coal registered a 2.1% decline. For the first nine months of 1986, carloadings were 0.8% higher than for the same period of 1985. Trailer/container-on-flatcar traffic increased by 14.2%, but coal traffic declined by 0.1% and all other traffic declined by 2.2%.
