Baldwin Park : Recall Petitions Delivered
- Share via
Three petitions seeking the recall of Mayor Jack B. White and City Council members Leo King and Robert McNeill have been delivered to the Baldwin Park city clerk’s office.
The petitions, each with more than 4,000 signatures, were given to the Los Angeles County registrar-recorder for signature verification. The number of valid signatures needed on each petition is 2,899.
The utility tax passed by the City Council in August, 1985, and anti-redevelopment sentiment that surfaced during June hearings on the Sierra Vista redevelopment project contributed to the recall attempt.
The redevelopment project covers two miles along the San Bernardino Freeway. City officials want to improve the decaying freeway frontage to attract big businesses, but opponents fear that hundreds of homes would be razed for the project.
