San Diego Gas & Electric has asked state regulators to approve a $64-million electric rate reduction that would trim “typical” residential bills by $2.15 a month. A “typical” electric bill includes charges for 400 kilowatt-hours of electricity and 40 therms of natural gas.
The rate decrease request was submitted to the state Public Utilities Commission on Monday.
SDG&E; linked the rate decrease to falling interest rates that have reduced SDG&E;’s cost of borrowing money, depreciation on Units 2 and 3 at the San Onofre nuclear power plant, increased demand for electricity and federal tax law changes.
